Addenbrooke's choose Yeoman Shield for wall and door protection

Yeoman Shield has supplied and installed a wide range of wall and door protection products as part of a PFI project at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, one of the largest and best known hospitals in the country.

Door Panels and Door Edge Protectors

Since Addenbrooke’s first opened its doors in 1766 with just 20 beds and 11 patients, it has grown into a large teaching hospital with many specialist departments serving the local population of south Cambridgeshire as well as adjoining parts of Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

Handrail

With a catchment population of approx. 500,000 and over 6,000 staff, the hospital is subject to a large amount of pedestrian and wheeled traffic, such as patient trolleys, food trolleys and beds, which can cause unsightly wear and tear to walls and doors.

Damage to walls is a common occurrence in busy workplaces, such as hospitals. Addenbrooke’s (in conjunction with support services business, Alfred McAlpine) addressed this issue by utilising a wide range of Yeoman Shield wall protection products, including corner protection (for walls and furniture, such as nurse’s stations), bed head protectors (which prevent damage from hospital beds to both walls and wall mounted equipment) and approximately 1500 metres of protection/handrails. Mid grey Yeoman Shield handrails contrast with the white walls to aid visually impaired people and, by providing guidance and support, the handrails also meet the needs of disabled people and people with impaired mobility.

Protection Rail

Door Panels and Door Edge Protectors have also been fitted to prolong the life of hospital doors, eliminate the need for maintenance and retain a smart appearance. The versatility of Yeoman Shield Door Edge Protectors enable the product to be fitted to radius, square or double swing doors on the leading or hinged edge, providing much needed protection to vulnerable doors without affecting the integrity of the fire rating.

Michael Turner, facilities manager at Alfred McAlpine, said: "We were impressed with both the quality of Yeoman Shield’s range and the quick efficient installation service. I would recommend Yeoman Shield for any future projects we are involved with."
