What colour for your wall paneling?
Once you have decided to use wall paneling in a room, the next decision you will have to face is what colour to use. This may be obvious if you are adding the wall paneling to a room with existing furnishings, as you will probably want it to match up with the colour scheme that already exists in the room.
However, if the building or room is being designed from scratch and you will be using wall paneling, then choosing a colour can be quite a dilemma. Here is a guide to the main colour candidates you are likely to choose and the effect each one will have when chosen as wall paneling.
Reds and Yellows
Warm hues such as reds and yellows are perceived to be quite stimulating. They are also often associated with moods such as action and assertion. Strong reds can be associated with aggression, so be careful if you are choosing red as the colour of your wall paneling in a school or nursery.
Blues and Greens
Light blues and greens tend to be associated with calmness. This is due to their close relation to blue skies and the colour of nature. When people find themselves in blue and green environments, it is common they will experience sensory reactions such as a slower pulse and a lowered body temperature.
Remember that the descriptions relate to these colours in their primary form. Different shades and tones will drastically affect the effect the wall paneling will have. Obviously neon green will have a different effect to a light green and so on.
Nothing has as big of an impact on room atmosphere than the wall colour, which is why so much consideration needs to be put into the choice of colour for your wall paneling.
